Bone Thugs N Harmony Biography

bone-thugs-n-harmonyOne of the oldest rap groups in existence today, the Cleveland-based group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony has been active in music since 1989. The group was originally known as B.O.N.E. Enterpri$e. The group released one album under that name, that being 1993’s Faces of Death. Later on in the year the group signed with the Ruthless Records label, and the group would soon be renamed Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. In 1994 the group would release the extended play record Creepin on ah Creepin Up, and the following year their second full album, E. 1999 Eternal. This album reached the top of the Billboard hip-hop charts. The album featured the song “Tha Crossroads,” which reached the top position on four Billboard singles charts, including the U.S. Hot 100. The song is much different from other songs by the group in that the lyrics are not rapped as quickly as they normally are on their records. The group’s follow-up record, 1997’s The Art of War, also went to the top of the Billboard charts. The single “Look Into My Eyes” reached fourth on the U.S. Hot 100 chart. In 2000 the group released BTNHResurrection, but the release of the album was overshadowed by controversy. On that same year group member Flesh-N-Bone was arrested for gun charges and was sentenced to eleven years in jail. In 2002 the group released its fifth album, Thug World Order. The album was significantly edited, as there were several songs on it that involved significant and highly critical lyrics about politics, police and violence. This was seen as highly taboo after the terrorist attacks from a year earlier. The single “Home,” which distinctively samples the Phil Collins song “Home,” was the only song that appeared on any American charts. Bizzy Bone, who was heavily criticized for being drunk during a performance in New York City, was fired from the group and he frequently refused to support their work. The group’s next album, The Bone Thugs Story, will be released in the upcoming months.
