Busta Rhymes biography


Busta Rhymes was born Trevor Taheim Smith Sr. on May 20th 1972 in Brooklyn. In 1984 Busta and his family moved from Brooklyn to a suburb in Uniondale, Long Island. Where he would meet C.Brown, Dinco D, Cut Monitor Milo and together they formed the group Leaders of the New School. In 1991 they dropped the album A Future Without a Past. Busta Rhymes made his debut on "(Just Another) Case of The PTA" which was a humorous and upbeat song. The group started to gain attention around New York City and that led to an association with the Native Tongues Posse. In 1993 The Leaders of the New School dropped their last album T.I.M.E and Busta Rhymes had a breakout performance on A Tribe Called Quest's classic single "Scenario" which made him a fan favorite.

The Leaders of the New School, disbanded during a November 1993 broadcast of Yo! MTV Raps. Busta Rhymes went solo and began shopping for a record label to sign him. He also appeared in a small role in the movie Who's the Man? In 1995 Busta played the character "Dreads" in the controversial Movie Higher Learning, directed by John Singelton the movie was about racial tension on a university campus. In 1996 Busta dropped his solo debut The Coming which would eventually go platinum with singles like "Woo-Hah!! Got You All In Check" Busta got a lot of video play for the remix to this song performed with Ol Dirty Bastard.

That album also introduced his new group Flipmode squad with rappers Rampage, Lord Have Mercy, Spliff Star, Rah Digga and Baby Sham. In 1997 he quickly followed up by dropping When Disaster Strikes... which also went platinum. The album furthered his popularity with two hit singles "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" and "Dangerous". In 1998 Busta first dropped The Imperial album with his group The Flipmode Squad. This would be the last album dropped as a group to date. Later that year Busta dropped another Platinum solo album Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front. The single "Gimme Some More" and "What's It Gonna Be? featuring Janet Jackson helped the album reach it's platinum status.

The year 2000 was a busy year for Busta he appeared in two big movies. First he played the character Rasaan in the movie Shaft alongside Samuel l. Jackson. He then appeared as the character Terrell Wallace in the movie Finding Forrester. He also dropped another platinum selling album Anarchy. In 2001 Busta signed with J records and dropped a greatest hits record Total Devastation: The Best of. and then dropped his 6th album Genesis which also went platinum with the help of two hit singles "Break Ya Neck" and "Pass the Courvoisier".

2002 was another busy year for Busta, he appeared in two more movies and dropped another solo effort. He appeared in "Narc" and "Halloween: Resurrection" and dropped It Ain't Safe No More. The album was not as successful as previous albums two moderate hit singles came along "Make It Clap," and a duet with Mariah Carey, "I Know What You Want". In 2004 Busta dropped another greatest hits album called The Artist Collection and signed with Dr Dre's aftermath and is ready to release his latest album The Big Bang on may 16th 2006, he is already getting a lot of buzz for the single "touch it".

And the latest controversy surrounding Busta is he has been tight lipped about a murder investigation that claimed the life of his bodyguard Izzy Ramirez. The incident occured during the tapping of "touch it" remix video in Brooklyn after an argument between Tony Yayo and Swizz Beatz.
