Camron Biography |
|
 |
Based out of Brooklyn, New York, Cam’ron (nee Cameron Giles) leads the hip-hop group the Diplomats. His career in music began in the mid-1990s as a member of the Children of the Corn. The group disbanded after member Bloodshed died in a car accident in 1997. Since then he has worked as a solo artist, releasing two albums with Epic Records. He left Epic in 2000 after he complained that the label was not supporting him enough. In 2002 he signed with Roc-A-Fella Records and released his Come Home With Me album. The album spawned the hit singles “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma,” both of which feature appearances by Juelz Santana. His success made Roc-A-Fellow Records manager Dame Dash offer him a position as the vice president of the label, but the idea was soon thrown out.
In 2003 Cam’ron, along with Juelz Santana, Jim Jones and Freekey Zeekey, formed the Diplomats and released their only album together, Diplomatic Immunity.
In recent years, however, Cam’ron has been known especially for the controversy he brings along with him. In 2004, while promoting his Purple Haze album, Cam’ron accused rap musician Ma$e, who worked with him as part of the Children of the Corn, of lying in his recent autobiography about the fall of the group and his current relationships with the members of the group. In 2005, he was shot outside of a Washington, D.C., nightclub after a performance. Also, earlier this year on his most recent record, Killa Season, Cam’ron wrote a track insulting rap mogul Jay-Z of stealing control over Roc-A-Fella Records and claiming that the person who shot him a year earlier was affiliated with the label.
Cam’ron has also appeared in a series of films, including 2002’s Paid in Full, 2005’s State Property 2, and the 2006 direct-to-DVD release Killa Season. His next album, Killa Season 2, is expected to be released next year.
