Cassidy Biography |

 Cassidy is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based rapper who is a relatively new face in the genre, but he has also run into some serious troubles with the law. Cassidy, whose real name is Barry Adrian Reese, worked as a battle rapper in the early parts of his career, and he came to major prominence after a battle with rap musician Freeway. Eventually his work would appear in many mixtapes, and he would soon be signed by J Records and the Full Service label, a label run by rap producer Swizz Beatz.
Cassidy’s music is best noted for his freestyle form of rapping, including sometimes throwing multiple rhymes in a two line set. However, he has also come under criticism from some critics and other rappers. They state that he is repetitive in his work, especially with how he ends many lines in his work with “man.” However, this criticism has not stopped him from having a successful set of albums.
In 2004 he released his first album, Split Personality. The album reached the second spot on the Billboard United States album charts. The album features the hit single “Hotel,” which features an appearance by hip-hop singer R. Kelly. A year later he released his follow-up record, I’m a Hustla. This album also reached the Billboard United States Top Ten chart.
Cassidy’s career, however, came to a significant hiatus due to criminal trouble. In June 2005 Cassidy had a warrant issued against him for murder. According to reports he and a couple others shot at a couple of people after an argument in west Philadelphia. However, the main witness to the crime dropped his confession, meaning that Cassidy would not be charged with murder. This past January he was sentenced to a jail sentence of one to two years but was credited for the time he had spent in jail during his court hearing. He was released from jail in March, and he is currently working in his next album, which is expected to be released later this year. |
