Hakeem Seriki was born in Houston,Texas on November 28th 1979. He grew up in a strict household with his Muslim father and Christian mother, where hip hop music was banned until his parents split up when he was in Highschool. Hakeem started his musical career in Highschool alongside his childhood friend Paul Wall. They began by promoting local events for other southern artists, eventually they hooked up with Swishahouse records CEO Michael 5000 Watts.
They promoted and freestyled on the Swishahouse mixtapes and eventually moved out on their own creating The Color Changin Click.
Cham and Paul signed with Paid In Full Records, and released Get Ya Mind Correct in 2002. Despite selling 100,000 copies in Houston the two parted ways on bad terms due to money conflicts.
They release one more album (Controversy Sells) however the project was incomplete due to the breakup.
Chamillionare decided to go out on his own, and never work with anybody else. He released mixtape after mixtape and sold very well independantly, keeping his buzz in the streets.
In 2005 he finally released his first major solo album (The Sound of Revenge) which is certified platinum with the help of two hit singles "Turn It Up" featuring Lil' Flip and "Ridin" featuring Krayzie Bone. |
