Clipse Biography |
|
 |
Clipse is a hip-hop duo run by brothers Gene and Terrence Thornton, better known respectively as Malice and Pusha-T.
The duo has been in existence for almost fifteen years. The group was first discovered by record producer Pharrell Williams, who helped get them a contract with Elektra Records.
The group’s first album, Exclusive Audio Footage, was originally going to be released in 1999, but the album was not being promoted as well and Elektra wanted to focus on its other acts instead. The album has never been officially released in stores, but it has leaked onto the Internet through many different sites, and the duo sometimes performs songs from that album at concerts.
Clipse is hoping to officially release the record someday, but when that would happen or if it ever will is yet to be known.
Williams was able to get Clipse to sign with Arista Records in 2001 under the Star Trak label. One year later, Clipse released its second album and first to be officially release, Lord Willin’. The album reached the fourth spot on the Billboard charts.
In that same year Clipse appeared on the Justin Timberlake single “Like I Love You”
Clipse’s third album, Hell Hath No Fury, will be released on October 31 of this year. However, it was originally expected to have been released sooner, but it was not due to contractual difficulties. After the Sony-BMG merger, Arista dissolved into its Jive Records division.
The Star Trak label left for Interscope Records, leaving Clipse behind. The group soon sued Jive to be released from their contract with the label, a decision that was decided upon after the album was delayed for so long. In 2006 Clipse would come to an agreement with Jive, thus allowing the album to be released by the end of the yeDuring the time between the recording the release Clipse performed under two volumes of the We Got It 4 Cheap mixtape series. |
