Born Earl Simmons on December 18, 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was brought up by his single mother, who ended up moving them to School Street housing projects in Yonkers. Earl got into a lot of trouble as a youth he dropped out of high school and robbed people for a living. His only friends as a youth was his pit-bull "Boomer". He was always on the run from police and did a couple of stints in group homes.
He honed his skills for rhyming by battling other rappers at school and at shows.
He had enough of going in and out of jail So he began taking his music career seriously.
He took the name DMX from a digital sound machine and later it stood for Dark Man X. He dropped his first album "DMX: Unleashed and Unreleased" which gave him some buzz in his neighborhood. In 1996 He signed a deal with Ruff Ryder's through the Def Jam Label.
In 1997 Dmx made a lot of guest appearances, he appeared on LL cool J's "4, 3, 2, 1" and on Mase's "24 Hours to Live" and The Lox's "Money, Power, & Respect" which brought his face to the forefront. He finally released his own single "Born Loser", but it was banned from MTV due to the graphical nature of the video.
In 1998 Dmx dropped his major debut album "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" which went 4x platinum with the help of three singles "Get At Me Dog", "Stop Being Greedy" and "Ruff Ryder's' Anthem" and is now considered a hip-hop classic album.
DMX also starred in the movie Belly alongside Nas, Method Man and Taral Hicks. 7 months later Dmx dropped his follow up album "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood" which featured him covered in Pig's blood on the cover of the album. The album went 3x platinum with the help of The Hard Knock Life Tour he embarked on after the album was released.
In 1999 he dropped another no. 1 album ...And Then There Was X, it became his best-selling album to date going 6x platinum. He had three popular singles from this album "Party Up (Up in Here)", "What You Want" and "What's My Name?"
In 2000, he appeared in major movie alongside Aaliyah and Jet Li in Romeo Must Die. A movie loosely based on Romeo and Juliet.
In 2001, He starred in an action movie called "Exit Wounds" alongside Steven Segal, which was a suprise hit grossing over $50 million.
He also dropped his fourth solo album The Great Depression. The album went platinum with the help of his three singles "We Right Here", "Who We Be" and "I Miss You" (featuring Faith Evans).
Early 2003, Dmx starred in another number 1 movie. He played the role of (Fait) a jewel thief. He also dropped what was supposed to be his last album The Grand Champ which went platinum featuring two singles "Where The Hood At?", "Get It On The Floor (featuring Swizz Beatz)".
In 2004, he came out with another movie called Never Die Alone which was an adaptation of a novel written by Donald Goines.
In 2006 we anticipate his sixth solo album "Year of the Dog, Again," under his new label Sony. He is also set to star in the upcoming film "Last Hour" and is currently filming a new thriller "Marble City".
