Dr Dre Biography |
|
 |
One of the most powerful people in the business of hip-hop, Dr. Dre ( Andre romelle Young) is not only a successful musician but also a highly successful executive and producer.
He is also known as one of the pioneers of the gansta rap form.
Based out of Los Angeles, he began his career in music as a member of the short-lived hip-hop group World Class Wreckin’ Cru. After the group disbanded he joined the highly influential rap group N.W.A. He performed with the group on their first couple of albums, but in 1991 he left in order to follow into the business side of the industry.
Soon after that he, along with Suge Knight, formed Death Row Records. His first solo album, the Chronic, was released in 1992 and was an immediate hit. The album also helped to launch the careers of some other musicians who appeared on the album, including Snoop Doggy Dogg, who is now known as Snoop Dogg.
Dre produced the record himself.
In 1996, Dre left Death Row Records after Knight was accused of racketeering and Tupac Shakur, one of the artists signed to the label, was shot to death. He then created a new label, Aftermath Entertainment. He also released a compilation album of music featuring artists on the label. In 1999 he released his second album, 2001, which was also an instant success.
The album featured appearances by some of the artists who he has produced music for, including Xzibit and Eminem.
Since the release of 2001, Dr. Dre has been focusing on producing music. Among the most successful musicians that he has produced for in recent years include 50 Cent, the Game and Nas. Dre’s next and supposedly final solo album, Detox, was originally scheduled to be released in 2005, but that album is not yet finished and there is no release date. |
