Lil Kim biography


Kimberly Denise Jones was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 11th, 1975 in the Bedford-Stuyvesant region. Her parents separated at the age 9, so she began rhyming to let out her frustrations. In her teens she caught the attention of The Notorious B.I.G. who introduced her to Junior M.A.F.I.A whom she became a member of. She also was Christopher Wallace's lover. In 1995 The Junior M.A.F.I.A dropped their debut and only album Conspiracy. The album went Gold with the help of two hit singles, "Get Money" and "Player's Anthem. In 1996 Lil Kim dropped her solo debut (Hardcore). The album went 2x platinum solidifying her status in the hip hop world. The album had 3 hot singles "Crush On You", "No Time" and "Not Tonight".

In 1997 Kim and the rest of the world suffered a huge loss in the death of her mentor and Lover Notorious BIG. she decided to take a break in her music career to mourn the death of Biggie. In 1999 she made a small appearance in the movie She's all that. It was first time appearing in a movie which gave her a chance to be on the big screen. She also appeared in the movie Longshot later in 2000.

In 2000 she started her own record label Queen Bee Records, and she released her sophomore album The Notorious K.I.M. which went platinum with the help of two singles "No Matter What They Say" and "How Many Licks?".

In 2001 she made a cameo appearance in the hit movie Zoolander and then won a Grammy with Christina Aguilera, Mya and Pink for the hit "Lady Marmalade" for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. There was also some controversry in 2001 she was present when her entourage was involved in a shootout outside the Hot 97 radio station against Capone-N-Noreaga and Foxy Brown. In 2002 she appeared in another movie Juwanna Man.

In 2003 released her third album, La Bella Mafia. The album eventually went platinum with the help of two hit singles "The Jump Off" and "Magic Stick". she also appeared in two movies Those Who Walk in Darkness and Gang of Roses. In 2004 Kim did not record any of her own music. She appeared in two movies, Nora's Hair Salon and You got served.

In 2005 she was convicted of perjury for lying to the grand jury about her friends involvement in the 2001 shooting outside the hot 97 radio station. She was given a one-year-and-a-day sentence in a Philadelphia federal detention center. She filmed a reality show before she began serving her sentence and released her fifth album The Naked Truth. So far it is her lowest-selling album to date, selling only 326,000 units despite the 5 mic rating it received from The Source magazine, making her the only female artist to receive this honor. In 2006 she plans on re-releasing The Naked Truth with new songs she wrote in jail. She is scheduled to be released from the Federal Detention center of Philadelphia in July of 2006.
